DOCartoon Opening Night Special Event:
National Première of
Crulic, a path to beyond di Anca Damian. First prize winner of Annecy Film Festival.
The touching, although ironic story of Claudiu Crulic, a young immigrant from Romania to Poland, charged with theft and imprisoned in Cracovia, dead on hunger strike. Written, directed and produced by Anca Damian, this astonishing animated documentary film tells a true story by means of a mixture of different techniques such as drawings, photographs, stop-motion animation, collages, library pictures.
Told from the point of view of the dead protagonist Claudiu (whose voice is the Romanian actor's Vlad Ivanov), the movie begins from the end of the story, Crulic's death and the bureaucratic procedure undertaken by his mother and sister to identify the body, going backwards through the absurd events that lead to his assassination: a theft charge, a miscarriage of justice, and a hunger strike undertaken to attract public opinion's attention.
